Lincoln is the epic story of the banning of slavery with the finest actors and arguably the best director of his generation. President Abraham Lincoln (Daniel Day Lewis) is faced with a dilemma: should he prolong the American Civil War, with all the loss of life that it involves, to pass an anti-slavery bill through Congress or strive for a peace that will mean the defeat of the bill? With his wife Mary (Sally Field) and much of the Congress pressing him to go for peace and never mind the slave issue, Lincoln is a battle of wills and conscience.
